Not all of us are lucky enough to have been born with thick hair. Even some of those born with thick, luscious hair can experience hair loss and thinning. This could be due to ageing, excessive stress levels, hormonal imbalances, nutritional deficiencies or use of harsh hair caring products.
The hair mask I have been using religiously for the past few months has helped out a lot and I have definitely seen a massive change and improvement. Luckily, the time has come where I can share this gem of a mask with you!
It is a natural and contains no harmful, unnatural ingredients that might have side effects to them. It consists of Avocado, Extra Virgin Olive oil, Extra Virgin Argan oil and Greek yoghurt. Strange, I know! But believe me, it is so light on the hair yet so powerful and works wonders. It’s incredible that just mixing such simple ingredients can give you such beautiful results. Below, I speak about the benefits of each ingredient:
The Avocado contains many phyto-chemicals, antioxidants like vitamin A, E, D, and B6, amino acids, and minerals like potassium, copper, iron, and magnesium. It is said to promote hair growth and prevents hair loss whilst adding a shine to dull locks, preventing frizzy hair. Since it’s a fat, it is able to lock moisture into hair cells, nourishing the hair cells and strengthening the hair roots and strands.
The Olive oil is a rich balsam that conditions the hair and makes it easy to comb. Like the avocado it adds shine and prevents breakage. Olive oil is beneficial for all hair types and combining olive oil with different ingredients provides a variety of masks to add strength.
The yoghurt accelerates the growth of slow-growing hair. The protein content in yoghurt provides plentiful nourishment and strength to the hair, without making it dull or dry. The zinc and lactic acid properties help stimulate blood circulation, which also aids in growth.
For the Argan oil, It is essential you use Extra Virgin and organic Moroccan oil to get the best results as it is unrefined and contains Argan oil, solely. What the oil does to your hair is moisturises and prevents split ends. It is also able to control and prevent frizzy hair since it contains vitamin E, omega-3, and omega-9 fatty acids. It keeps your hair smooth, without weighing it down and making it look greasy and flat.
You will only be needing 2 tablespoons for this hair mask, since you don’t want your hair to be greasy after you wash it. However, it all depends on how long or short your hair is.
2 tbsp Olive oil
1/2 small Avocado
1 heaped tbsp Greek yoghurt
2 tbsp Argan oil
Combine all your ingredients in a mixing bowl and mix throughly using a fork .
Apply 2 tbsp (or more) directly onto the scalp and massage it well (this process is very therapeutic!), working from the roots to the hair ends, and let it sit for at least 15 minutes. Make sure you stand over a sink because this mask is relatively drippy. Then cover your hair with a plastic shower cap or wrap your hair with cling film, as you do not want drops of the mixture everywhere. While waiting for the mask to penetrate for 15 minutes, you can be reading or even making yourself a little snack.
